Sears names Ogilvy & Mather for Tire America and NTW advertising.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 1996--Sears, Roebuck and Co. announced Friday that it will consolidate advertising for its Tire America and National Tire Warehouse (NTW) tire stores with Oglivy & Mather.

O&M will now handle strategy developement, creative execution ynd media planning for all of the Tire America and NTW stores, in addition to the Sears Auto Centers.

``We plan to grow our tire business by adding over 400 more freestanding stores over the next five years,'' said Tom Yorton, Sears Tire Group vice president of marketing. ``Intregrated marketing and advertising will play a key role in the success of this aggressive plan and we think that O&M can help us to redefine the marketing paradigm in the category.''

``O&M assembled a unique, multi-city team designed to leverage the best of their Chicago, New York and other offices,'' said John H. Costello, Sears senior executive vice president of marketing. ``We're confident their expertise and knowledge of our business will help grow our off-the-mall tire stores.''

The Chicago O&M office currently is the agency of record for the Sears Auto Centers so this assignment will place the entire Sears Tire Group advertising account with Ogilvy.

The Sears Tire Group consists of 779 Sears Auto Centers, 150 NTW and 125 Tire America stores. Sears, Roebuck and Co. is one of the nation's leading retailers with 1995 revenues of more than $34 billion. Sears, headquartered in Hoffman Estates, Ill., operates more than 1,800 department and specialty stores nationwide.
