Search is on for area's best; Awards Sports council seeks nominations.

The hunt for Nithsdale's top sporting stars is well underway.

The Nithsdale Sports Council awards ceremony will take place at The Usual Place in Academy Street, Dumfries, on Friday, November 6. Organisers are now looking for nominees in a range of categories.

The awards are a great chance for successful local sportsmen and women to be recognised for their hard work and achievements.

There are 15 awards up for grabs. The most coveted prizes are the male and female sports personality of the year titles.

Last year they were won by golfer Liam Johnston and curler Sophie Jackson for their exploits at home and abroad.

Team of the year and club of the year are also likely to be hotly contested. Dumfries Y Gymnastics won club of the year in its 40th year after numbers rose from 30 to 110.

Michael Goldie won club volunteer of the year for his work as Dumfries Tennis Club convener.

There are also awards for the top coach, best junior team, the male and female young sports personality awards, disability sports personality and disability coach, as well as the award for services to sport.

To nominate someone fill in the form below and send it in by October 31.

Anyone who wants to sponsor an award or buy a ticket for the ceremony can contact senga.thomson@dumgal.gov.uk or phone 030 33 33 3000 extension 60286.
