Scuffles Break out Between British Protesters, Police during May Day Demos.

Summary: TEHRAN (FNA)- Scuffles broke out between British protesters and police during a May Day demonstration in central London, local media reported.

On Wednesday, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the offices of giant US firm Lockheed Martin in High Holborn, some unfurling flags and staging a sit-down protest in the middle of the road, British media reported.

Police officers stopped the traffic and swamped the area before engaging in scuffles as they tried to move the protesters along, press tv reported.

Some demonstrators marched off to other events while a large contingent was still being penned in by police close to the Lockheed headquarters. One police officer was hit by a can of beer.

The demonstration was one of a number of May Day events planned by anti-capitalist and anti-war protesters.

Gatherings were taking place all over the UK including a Trade Union Congress (TUC) rally in central London.

Demonstrations were planned in London, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Leicester and Bradford.

Previous May Day demonstrations have ended in violence and last year there were 54 arrests.
