Scouts carry on camping at Lepton woods weekend.

LEPTON is believed to have started as a settlement or farmstead by the Anglo-Saxons, indicated by the "ton" part of Lepton.

Once, Lepton had two woods - Lepton Great Wood and Lepton Little Wood - though Lepton Little wood was cut down to make way for the building of houses.

This week we've got cricket and football teams, musical productions and plenty of fundraisers too. Take a look, and if you live (or have ever lived) in Lepton, chances are you will recognise someone!

These youngsters were helping to build a log cabin at a Huddersfield South West District annual Cub camp in 1986. Almost 90 boys attended the event at Whitley Beaumont Scout camp in Lepton. The theme for the weekend was Robin Hood and activities included archery, fire-lighting, cooking, apple-bobbing, compass work and collage making. A camp fire was held and a Sunday morning service held in the open air. Pictured (from left) are Vandell McLean, Richard Topham, Timothy Kaye and Rodert Martindale
