Scotty Brand Highland Baby potatoes.
Scotty Brand, provider of premium seasonal Scottish produce, has introduced Highland Baby potatoes to its product portfolio.
The baby potatoes are Isle of Jura variety and are grown and packed on the Brunton family farm in Easter Ross, in the far north of Scotland.
Scotty Brand Highland Baby potatoes are available in 175g packs and will initially be sold in Waitrose stores in Scotland.
Michael Jarvis, Head of Marketing for Scotty Brand, said: "We are very excited to be launching Scotty Highland Baby potatoes. Scotty Brand has an established reputation for delivering Scottish food that is good value, low in food miles and high on taste and this addition to our potato family is consistent with the quality and expertise behind our fresh produce offerings."
The Brunton family has farms in Easter Ross--where Highland baby potatoes are grown--and in the Angus area of Scotland. The farm in the far north of Scotland enjoys cool springs and warm summers, with up to 23 hours of sunlight per day in the middle of the season. All of the potatoes are grown within one mile of the sea in light soil and are carefully stored within one hour of being harvested. The growing conditions make for a fresh-flavoured, sweet and very tasty potato.
The potatoes are planted in late March and April and harvested in August and September. They are kept as fresh as possible due to the on-site cold storage unit that allows the newly harvested crop to be cooled immediately.
To enrich and maintain the local flora and fauna on their farms, the Bruntons operate a number of environment protecting policies; including a buffer zone around all waterways to ensure that there are no contaminations from agricultural practices as well as producing a pollen rich habitat to attracts bumblebees.
