The Special Award for Extraordinary Response to International Terrorism is approved by the President of the US and is awarded to individuals and organisations who show exceptional courage and commitment in their work on behalf of victims of crimes.

US Attorney General Janet Reno is expected to present the award at a ceremony that will take place in Washington DC on 19 April.

Pan Am flight 103 exploded over the town of Lockerbie, Scotland, on 21 December 1988. The trial of two Libyans accused of causing the disaster is due to start in Holland next month.
