Scots face relegation dogfight; HOCKEY.

SCOTLAND are set for a relegation scrap after edging to within 10 seconds of a promotion pool place at the EuroHockey Indoor Nations Championship II in Denmark Gordon Shepherd's side needed just a draw to seal qualification only for Pool A pacesetters France to snatch a 4-3 victory.

The women's outfit trailed 3-2 at the break before Nicky Lloyd and Kareena Marshall combined to fire them level.

However, the French, who have not dropped a point in Slagelse, stole a late winner from a penalty corner.

The defeat sees the Scots slip down to third place in Pool A with four points as Switzerland seized second spot on goal difference following a 6-1 demolishing of Denmark.

Shepherd's side now face the Slovak Republic, who were third in Pool B, and Russia, who finished fourth with only one point from three starts.
