A research poll for Waterstone's bookstore has shown that people in Scotland buy more books per month than anywhere else in the United Kingdom.

The poll revealed that a third of Scots buy at least one book per month - with the Highlands and Islands regions containing the most regular buyers.

Waterstone's also found that 50% of Scots choose books by Scottish authors rather than those of a different nationality making them the most patriotic readers. Scots voted Ian Rankin as their favourite author.
