Scotland's Hairy Potter.

SCOTLAND could soon be hosting another Potter movie - the biography of Peter Rabbit creator Beatrix Potter.

Cate Blanchett is to play the author and illustrator who produced the first drawings of Peter Rabbit while on a family holiday in Dunkeld, Perthshire, in 1893.

It is hoped film makers will use the local countryside for the new movie, which was announced at the Cannes Film Festival. Stephanie Hand, arts manager of Perthshire's Birnam Insitute, home to a permanent Beatrix Potter exhibition, said: "It would be a fantastic boost and would show Birnam's role in the creation of Beatrix Potter characters."

Miss Potter, produced by Phoenix Pictures, is due to begin shooting this autumn. The movie will mix live action with computer- generated characters.
