Science motivates The Natural Dentist.

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Natural Dentist Inc.'s new tagline, "Nature, Clinically Proven," distills the company's unique position: a natural oral care brand founded on research and continually guided by scientific proof. That identity makes the company's products stand apart from other natural offerings and allows it to compete directly with conventional brands.

The May 2008 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association published a laboratory study from the Forsyth Institute proving that The Natural Dentist Healthy Gums Mouth Rinse kills germs better than the leading brand of mouthwash, notes a spokesman for the company.

Consumers know that germ killing is the most desirable feature of a mouthwash and that oral bacteria cause bad breath and trigger the early forms of gum disease, the spokesman adds.

Clinical evidence is a big advantage and major "leveler" when consumers compare traditional and natural products; however, most natural products have not invested in the basic principle of "show me," says the spokesman.

"The Natural Dentist reduces the oral plaque that can lead to gum disease as well as the leading brand," he points out. "This is accomplished with a powerful blend of natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory ingredients, including aloe vera gel, echinacea, calendula, goldenseal and grapefruit seed extract."

This spring The Natural Dentist launched a television campaign that highlights the benefits of oral care products that do not contain such ingredients as alcohol, harsh chemicals or artificial dyes, sweeteners or preservatives.

This campaign marks the first such marketing effort by The Natural Dentist, which has steadily increased retail sales by targeting health-conscious consumers who seek natural alternatives.

The 30-second TV spot, part of a comprehensive marketing plan in support of the brand, is also airing nationwide this fall.

True to its name, The Natural Dentist began with original formulations created by a dentist, and the products have a 12-year record of endorsements by dentists, periodontists, cosmetic dentists and other specialists.

This year more than 3,000 dental hygienists introduced The Natural Dentist to their patients through the company's Natural Hygienist program. And the professional publication Dental Products Report recently named The Natural Dentist Healthy Gums Mouth Rinse its No. 1 over-the-counter product.

In April 2008 the company launched The Natural Dentist Anticavity Fluoride Rinse. The product provides cavity protection, including between teeth and around deteriorating fillings.

"Cavities are no longer a problem just for children, since more adults keep their natural teeth for a lifetime," the spokesman says. "It is estimated that 50% of adults can benefit from additional fluoride protection."

The company's best-selling product is The Natural Dentist Healthy Gums Mouth Rinse, which is available in peppermint twist and orange zest flavors. It provides antimocrobial benefits, reduces plaque and soothes the mouth and gums.

Meanwhile, The Natural Dentist Healthy Teeth & Gums Toothpaste delivers natural ingredients and superior performance in cleaning, whitening and cavity prevention. It contains no SLS (a detergent that may cause mouth irritation) and has the dentist-recommended natural ingredient xylitol to fight bacteria.

The toothpaste assortment includes Whitening Plus, Peppermint Twist and Orange Zest Original formulas as wen as Sparkle Berry Blast for children.

The Peppermint Sage Antigingivitis-Antiplaque formula is a fluoride-free option.
