Science Online, Updated ed.
Offering literally thousands of hyperlinked biographies, diagrams, timelines, definitions, and essays on a wide range of science topics, this database is organized by National Science Education Content Standards and Benchmarks for grades 6-12. The topics covered include animal anatomy, anthropology and archaeology, astronomy and space technology, atomic physics, biochemistry, biology, botany, chemistry, computer science, earth science, environmental science, general science, genetics, health and medicine, human anatomy and physiology, marine science, mathematics, physics, and weather and climate. The information is drawn from a range of relatively up-to-date Facts on File publications, such as Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Technology, International Encyclopedia of Women Scientists. The Facts On File Dictionary of Marine Science, and Encyclopedia of Ethics in Science and Technology, and citations are provided at the end of each entry. Searches can be done by keyword or by phrase, or by subject (in biographies, by nationality or occupation, and in timelines, by era) or by using an A-Z index, resulting in a search summary that lists the number of entries in each category (e.g., biographies, timelines, etc.), There is also an advanced search option. An annotated section of Web links is a helpful resource; another section provides the NSE Content Standards. This updated, easy-to-use database will be valuable for students, for teachers, and for general reference in both school and public libraries. Paula Rohrlick, KLIATT
