SciQuest and Provide Enhanced Chemical Search Capabilities to Scientists Worldwide.

Business/Technology Editors

Partnership enables chemists to search, source and buy more

efficiently than ever.

SciQuest (NASDAQ:SQST), a builder and operator of private marketplaces and supply chain solutions exclusively focused on leading research enterprises and their supplier partners worldwide, today announced a multi-year partnership with, a leading Internet chemistry software and tool provider. The alliance enables SciQuest to significantly enhance its Web-based chemical database and functionality, giving researchers the ability to search by chemical structure and substructure, as well as properties such as molecular weight ranges and formulae.

"We continue to look for ways to expand SciQuest's offerings to meet the needs of end-users in the global scientific marketplace. This new functionality gives scientists the ability to search their SciQuest-enabled private marketplace more intuitively for reagents and chemical compounds," said Scott Andrews, SciQuest's CEO and co-founder. "Medicinal and organic chemists, in particular, think of chemicals by their structure. By incorporating's proven chemical structure management technology into SciQuest's private marketplace offering, scientists will be able to source reagents by their structure and by substructures, as well as by chemical name and CAS number, a unique identifier for chemicals."

The alliance is further evidence of SciQuest's exclusive focus, domain expertise and comprehensive menu of integrated services. "We remain committed to advancing science through e-commerce, supply chain solutions and e-services that increase efficiency and reduce costs for both buyers and suppliers," Andrews continued.

"SciQuest has emerged as one of the fastest growing and most credible companies serving the scientific community with e-commerce and supply chain solutions," notes Michael Tomasic,'s CEO. "We are excited to extend the content and services to the growing base of SciQuest customers. Chemists recognize and appreciate the deep domain expertise and concentrated focus provided by SciQuest through its growing supplier base, unique enterprise asset management solutions, and this new partnership with"

The SciQuest `chemical shopper' will allow scientists to narrow their selection of chemicals using multiple search parameters relevant to the target structure. "Starting with simple reagents, scientists tweak the structures in successive steps to create complex molecules," explains Dr. J. Holland Jordan, SciQuest's director of marketing for chemicals. "Searching by structures is, therefore, a natural way for scientists to conduct their research." For example, if a pharmaceutical company desires to develop a drug that controls the pain of arthritis, its scientists will often improvise on a known `pharmacophore' - a molecule with useful biological activity. The chemical shopper enables scientists to search for suitable reagents that contain desirable structural elements. This will be a powerful tool in their efforts to develop a better drug candidate and is extremely helpful in the areas of combinatorial chemistry and high throughput screening."

The agreement also provides for richer data integration between the SciQuest commerce systems and EMAX Reagent Manager(TM) solutions. EMAX, a SciQuest company, is a leading provider of innovative asset manager software solutions already in use at many of the world's largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

About operates the leading Internet chemistry community, with web indexed database content and news (ChemFinder.Com and ChemNews.Com), and business-to-business e-commerce (ChemStore.Com), for scientists and researchers in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical industries and universities. ChemOffice including ChemDraw, published by, are the leading desktop research and discovery software applications in chemistry.
