School term date to coincide with those of neighbouring areas.

COVENTRY education bosses have agreed that school term dates should be brought into line with those of neighbouring Solihull and Warwickshire.

In a meeting yesterday to discuss the school terms and holiday dates for 2016/2017, councillors voted for option one.

That means pupils will start the autumn term on Tuesday, September 6, half-term will begin Monday, October 24, while the autumn term will end on Friday, December 16.

Spring term will start on Tuesday, January 3, and end on Friday, April 7. Half-term begins on Monday, February 20, and the summer term will begin on Monday, April 24, and end on Tuesday, July 25, with half-term on Monday, May 2. Coun David Kershaw (Lab, Bablake), cabinet member for education, said: "I'm very much inclined to say that this is the most sensible thing we can do.

"We are grateful that Solihull agree and hope Warwickshire will do the same."
