School is top.

A tyneside school has been recognised as the specialist college that has improved most in the country.

Joseph Swan School in Low Fell, Gateshead, was top of 57 technology colleges for gross improvement.

It came top for the rise in the number of students getting five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C.

Headteacher Jan Day said: "We are delighted with this encouraging news, it can only motivate us all at school to do even better. Well done to students, parents and staff."
