DAR: The Fox River Valley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is offering a new scholarship -- The American Spirit Scholarship, which is a $1,000 award based on volunteerism. Applicants should live in the Kane or McHenry County area. It is open to high school seniors and current college students or to students who are attending a trade school, who have selflessly dedicated their time to helping others. Garden Club of Dundee Township: The Garden Club of Dundee Township is offering a $2,000 scholarship to a student that has an interest in pursuing a career in an environmentally related area. Eligible students should contact high school counselors within Community Unit District 300. For applications, contact Debbie at Deadline is Sunday, April 1.

AAUW: The Elgin Area Branch of the American Association of University Women will award a $1,000 scholarship to a woman planning to attend college within a 50-mile radius of Elgin. St. Charles Women's Club: The St. Charles Women's Club is now taking scholarship applications. Eligibility requirements include: female student enrolled in a high school within the St. Charles Unit District 303 boundaries or an adult female with dependent children living or working within the District 303 boundaries, demonstrating financial need and enrolled in a degree program. Dennis Taylor Scholarship: The Dennis Taylor Scholarship Foundation for the Performing Arts announces scholarship grants for the 2018-19 school year.

The deadline for applications is April 1. Up to four $500 awards will be conferred on students of voice, instrument, theater and dance.

These initial scholarships are for the benefit of postsecondary students residing in the western suburbs of Chicago who have declared a major in the performing arts and demonstrated a passion for performance. Get an application form at or by calling (630) 584-0139. Finalists will be invited to audition in mid-April at Vero Voce Studio Theatre in St. Charles. Taylor served as a dancer, choreographer, costumer, makeup artist, set dresser and wig designer at dozens of suburban theaters for more than 50 years. Pottawatomie Garden Club: The Pottawatomie Garden Club will award a $3,000 scholarship to a high school senior or college student who resides within St. Charles Unit District 303. Any student interested in college studies related to botany, conservation, land management, ecology, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, environmental concerns and/or related studies may apply. McHenry Co. Historical Society: Applications are being accepted by the McHenry County Historical Society for its annual Nancy Fike Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship goes to a graduating senior from a McHenry County high school who plans to study education, history, or the social sciences. This merit-based scholarship will be given in the winning student's name to his or her university. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, provide two letters of recommendation (one from a faculty member and one from another representative of the community), show proof of community service, and write a minimum 500-word essay pertaining to McHenry County.
