Scent thief is jailed; Nicked aftershave.
Court reporter A serial shoplifter has been jailed for almost two years.
Darren Miller, 36, stole five bottles of aftershave from the Superdrug store in Coatbridge on January 27.
This followed other bouts of shoplifting, as well as a breach of a drug treatment and testing order.
Miller, of Viewfield Road, Coatbridge, cockily winked at the gallery as the procurator fiscal outlined his crimes.
She said: "At around 1.50pm, the accused entered the store.
"He placed his arms around a woman and pushed her to the ground before stealing the items she held.
"The five bottles of aftershave totalled PS235 and there was no recovery."
The court also heard how Miller also stole alcohol from Coatbridge Marks and Spencer on three occasions in 2016, as well as items of clothing from JD Sports.
More recently, in December, the yob made off with clothing and a jacket from New Look.
His defence solicitor Roberto Manini explained: "My client uses drugs to try and escape his problems but it only worsens them.
"He has a daughter who is in foster care as he is not fit to look after her."
Sheriff Morag Shankland told Miller: "This will be a substantial sentence.
"On your most recent charge I am sentencing you to 12 months in prison.
"On your other two, I will impose a punishment of three months each.
"With regard to the breach of your drug treatment order, it will be another three months.
"In total, this means you are sentenced to 21 months in jail."
