Scan Computer International Selects Arecont Vision Megapixel Cameras to Deter Criminal Activity and for Detailed Documentation.

Technology Company Benefits From Full System Upgrade

GLENDALE, Calif. -- One of the many strengths of a megapixel video surveillance camera is its capability to capture the minute detail in a scene, which can then be used in forensic analysis and as solid evidence in criminal proceedings. This was the objective for Scan Computer International, one of Europe's largest independent technology suppliers, when they implemented a new IP-based, high resolution video surveillance system at their head office in Bolton, England.

Designed by J2K Video, Scan's associate technology development partner, the new system replaces a traditional analog CCTV system. The upgraded system features megapixel IP cameras from Arecont Vision, the industry leader in IP-based megapixel camera technology, including their AV1300M (1.3MP) models for key entrance and exit areas and the AV2100M (2MP) and AV3100M (3MP) cameras to monitor warehouse aisles. A combination of AV3100DN (3MP) and AV5100M and AV5100DN (5MP)day/night cameras are deployed for external areas and are used with facial recognition and license plate recognition software.

According to Jay Patel, co-founder of J2K Video, the new system has had an immediate effect in reducing on-site crime. "Scan has been able to provide the police with excellent video evidence of incidents," he said. "The quality of the video from the megapixel cameras has also helped to reduce many disputes and problems such as shrinkage caused by short shipments by delivery personnel or internal theft."

In addition to the Arecont Vision megapixel cameras, J2K Video designed the replacement system based on its SharpView systems, which are developed around leading edge technologies using J2K Video's own software. J2K Video is one of the UK's leading information and security technology system designers, and an authorized distributor of Arecont Vision products in Europe.

Arecont Vision offers the industry's broadest line of megapixel IP cameras from 1.3 to 10 megapixel cameras in color or day/night versions, in addition to the 8 megapixel panoramic cameras. The company provides megapixel performance at price points comparable to IP VGA cameras, thus opening a broader range of applications to the technology. Arecont Vision combines H.264 compression and a proprietary image processing to provide greater compression efficiency that overcomes concerns about bandwidth and storage implications of megapixel technology.

"The Scan Computer International installation is a testament to the success of our technology and business practices. We are pleased that the customer's objectives have been fulfilled," said Steven Sarfati, Senior Vice President of International Sales, Arecont Vision.
