TEA and sympathy - for years the staple diet provided in hospitals by the gallant ladies of the WRVS.

Now they're in danger of being replaced by trendy coffee shops.

Out goes a big a mug of sweet tea and a digestive biscuit. In comes a cafe latte or a cafe au lait with a designer sandwich.

The aim is clear - make more money from a captive audience.

Two have already been set up in Glasgow but the good people of Inverclyde have started a petition against the loss of their cafe.

And they won't be the last as the battle lines are drawn to save the WRVS..
