Saudi Dr. Thoraya Obaid wins United Nations Population Fund 2015 Award.

Washington, Jumada II 22, 1436, April 11, 2015, SPA -- The United Nations Population Fund in New York announced that Dr. Thoraya Ahmed Obaid has won the United Nations Population Fund 2015 Award.

The United Nations Organization has established this award since 1981 to honor distinguished efforts in the field of health and housing.

The Fund's statement pointed out that Dr. Thoraya Obaid was the first female Saudi to be dispatched on scholarship to study in the United States of America and the first female Saudi nominated by the Government of the Kingdom for the presidency of an agency of the United Nations Organization. She was also among the first batch of Saudi women appointed to the membership of Majlis Al-Shura in 2013.

Dr. Thoraya Obaid occupied the post of Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund during the period from 2001 to 2010 and the African Centre for Health and Housing Studies, a non-governmental center.
