Saudi Arabia : SR 615 m deals inked to upgrade PORTS.

The Saudi Ports Authority (SPA) has signed various deals to develop the King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, Duba Port in Tabuk, King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu and Yanbu Commercial Port. Combined the deals amounts to $164m.

Abdul Aziz Al-Tuwaijri, president of the authority, said, the work includes establishing a new power station at the Damman Port which is expected to cost around $51.3m.

With this new power station, there will be an increase in electricity-generating capacity from existing 50MW to 120MW. Construction of two new wharfs will be done at King Fahd Port costing $38.5m, and acontainer wharf at the Duba port with a cost of $46.5m.

Yanbu will get a new wharf to accommodate ships, yachts and recreation boats which would cost around $27.7m.

Al-Tuwaijri said, This wharf at Yanbu Commercial Port will be constructed in co-operation with the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities to promote domestic tourism.

These new projects are expected to contribute towards improving the performance of Saudi ports.
