SATCON 2003

FAIRFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 2003

JD Events announces today that SATCON, the second annual Satellite Application Technology Conference and Exposition, focusing exclusively on the applications of satellite technology for end-users, has grown by 50% this year due to its end-user focus and unique content.

SATCON, to be held November 3-5 in New York City, will feature separate days of specialized content for Broadcasting and Government organizations. The event will also offer several sessions with solutions for enterprise firms from markets including financial, retail, healthcare, oil & gas, utilities, hospitality, energy, utilities, transportation, and maritime.

"Many satellite industry leaders support SATCON for entering the market last year with an end-user event," stated Brian Sullivan, General Manager of SATCON. "As a result, we have already signed more than 50 exhibitors and our pre-registered attendance is tracking well ahead of where it was last year. We are thrilled with the level of participation."

Content for SATCON is developed by an Advisory Board consisting of Global 2000 companies, the US Air Force, AFCEA, Gartner, Inc., satellite industry bellwethers and other associations. Content features predominantly panel sessions of end-users discussing a variety of topics, applications and technologies, which have recently emerged.

Key topics covered in the 2003 program will include the integration of satellite and terrestrial networks using Internet Protocol, "the Why of Satellites," for enterprise firms, and distance learning applications. SATCON will also feature several sessions for broadcast applications including TV coverage of the Gulf Wars, Direct-to-Home services, and "Future-Proofing Your Network."

Some additional unique features of the event include:

Session: 2005, 2010, 2015 - The Future of Satellite Communications

In this session, the results of the Delphi satellite industry survey will be revealed. Panel of satellite industry veterans, government officials and the World Bank review survey results and make their own predictions for the future of satellite applications.

Workshop: The Government and Military Customer in the Commercial Satellite Market

Government has become the single largest customer segment for the commercial satellite industry. Government agencies in the US and other countries are relying on commercial satellites as never before to maintain security, monitor hazards, train staff, fight battles and deploy sophisticated telecom and IT solutions to remote regions of the world.

This workshop features a panel of current and former government executives from the US Air Force, Navy, DOD, DISA, as well as satellite industry bellwethers. The panel will cover how effectively government and the commercial sector are interacting as buyer and seller and how national, state and local agencies are using satellite technology. Other issues addressed include the applications and technologies in greatest demand in the coming years and the challenges of procuring services and the expanding opportunities to meet needs, solve problems and introduce new technologies.

Panel Session: Government and Military Satellite Applications

Current and former government officials from Department of Defense, US Navy, US Air Force, and Command Control and Communications Intelligence (C3I) offer their insights into how satellites are being used to address homeland security issues, training needs, and evolving military and domestic applications.

"Satellites continue to provide unparalleled advantages to broadcasters, government agencies and private corporations worldwide," said Susan Irwin, Founder & President of Irwin Communications and Chair of the SATCON Conference. "Their flexibility, geographic reach and ease of implementation are not only being utilized in remote regions but are increasingly being integrated with in-place terrestrial networks, new wireless technologies and IP systems. SATCON will offer users the unique opportunity to explore very specific applications in key market sectors."
