Sartomer expanded its Westchester, PA, monomer production plant, the result of an 18-month long, $12 million expansion program that boosted monomer capacity 40%. A second phase to the expansion is already underway. It entails adjusting vessels and process equipment so that the company can manufacture high volume products and smaller volume specialty batch products between the new and existing sections of the plant. The adjustment will result in a doubling of capacity throughput, the company said in a press release. About 15% of the first phase expansion cost went toward improved safety systems - polymerization arrest systems and fire/explosion control systems - and $2 million was used to build a wastewater pretreatment plant in accordance with EPA standards.
