Sapporo names new U.S. branch head

Sapporo Breweries Ltd. last week named Munekazu Takenishi president of Sapporo U.S.A. Takenishi held the same title from 1984 to 1988, a period in which the brewery experience favorable sales growth in America, a brewery spokesperson said.

In 1988, Takenishi was promoted to director of the overseas marketing department in Tokyo, a position he will continue to hold.

"Sapporo U.S.A. has prospered under Mr. Takenishi's direction in the past and we are looking forward to continuing our leadership role in the U.S. market," said Takeshi Nagasawa, chairman, Saporo U.S.A.

In his new role, Takenishi will oversee marketing, production, distribution, budgeting and personnel management and will direct Sapporo's research of the U.S. beer, wine and soft drink markets.

Takenishi began his career at the company in 1956, after receiving his bachelor's degree in economics from Kyoto University.
