Sanyo introduces compact thermal facsimile machine.

CHATSWORTH, Cal. - Sanyo's office automation division has introduced a new compact thermal facsimile machine, model SFX-33, for a suggested retail price of $449.95.

The company said it has begun shipping its SFX-P55 multi-function plain-paper inkjet facsimile machine, which functions as a fax, copier, telephone and computer printer.

It has fax modem and scanner capabilities using a built-in parallel interface and fax software, which is not included, at a suggested retail price of $1095.95.

"The SFX-P55 will allow small and home office professionals to clear their desks of several machines sold separately in favor of one, high-way multi-function unit," said Alan Froloff, national marketing manager for Sanyo office automation. The machine's footprint measures 13 inches by 8 inches.

Sanyo's new SFX-33 compact fax machine has an anti-curl feature and closed network communication to block reception of "junk" faxes. This feature allows the user the option of receiving faxes only from fax numbers programmed into the one-touch, speed-dial memory.

The fax machine has telephone and photocopy functions. Transmission features include one-touch autodial, redial and hold with music, customized header print, contrast control and on-hook dialing and monitoring. In the copier mode, the unit offers 125 percent document enlargement and 80 percent reduction.

List and report functions include an activity report with self-diagnostic, transmission verification reports, a one-touch speed dial list and feature switch list.

A 16-digit LCD display constantly informs the user of the machine's status of operation. The inkjet printer features a 100-page sheet feeder.

Fax features include a 256Kb reception memory, 32-shade half-tone reproduction, a 10-sheet automatic document feeder, customized header print capability and timed transmission of up to 10 pages with 24-hour delay. Other capabilities include automatic dial memory for up to 39 telephone numbers, including eight one-touch numbers and 22 speed-dial numbers. To switch calls between the fax and an outside answering machine, voice prompts and automatic switch-over capability are built in.

The copier function offers a fine mode with or without halftone, superfine with halftone and a reduction 90, 84 or 70 percent. Up to 99 consecutive copies can be printed at one time.

The SFX-P55 comes with a connection cord, a telephone line cord, handset cradle, ink cartridge, original tray and instructional manual.
