Santa Clara CVB, California: Silicon Valley Central. (Hospitality).

Fueled by the ever-changing Silicon Valley, Santa Clara continues to expand and evolve for the 21st century. The city is one hour's drive south of San Francisco and five miles from Mineta/San Jose International Airport, and attracts more than 3 million visitors each year. And it's no wonder, with more than 3,800 hotel rooms and 300 days of sunshine a year, not to mention star attractions such as Paramount's Great America and the Intel Museum. In keeping with the region's reputation for the hottest and the highest technology around, Santa Clara's facilities offer the latest computer capabilities. What's more, the CVB Web site makes it easy to research attractions and accommodations for meetings.

A 280-room Hilton opened in January 2001 across the street from the Santa Clara Convention Center. The 262-room Biltmore Hotel and Suites has completed a $5 million exterior renovation project, giving the hotel a new classic look. The 754-room Santa Clara Marriott completed an extensive upgrade of its lobby, restaurant, pool, and health club last year. The Plaza Suites recently upgraded all 220 suites and its common areas. The Westin Santa Clara, connected to the convention center, pampers guests with Heavenly Beds in all its 505 guest rooms.

With the installation of its new communication infrastructure, the Santa Clara Convention Center is wired to accommodate any association's high tech needs. A fiber backbone of multimode and singlemode fiber-optics connects the entire facility and building to a complete voice/data network.

Distinctive glass pyramids mark the entrance to the 262,000-square-foot convention center that includes a 100,000-square-foot exhibit hall, 607-seat theater, 25 breakout rooms, and more than 2,000 free parking spaces. Fully equipped kitchen and banquet facilities can prepare up to 5,000 meals for service in the meeting rooms, grand ballroom, or exhibit hall. New this year will be a half-million-dollar upgrade to the public spaces, including new flooring, furniture, plants, and local art.

Within steps of the convention center are the David's of Santa Clara banquet and conference facility, an 18-hole championship golf course, seven lighted tennis courts, and other recreational and entertainment options giving your members respite from meeting activities.

The Network Meeting Center at TECHMART, adjacent to the convention center, was built exclusively for day meetings for up to 250 people. Each room has controlled lighting, integrated sound systems, and ergonomic chairs to make your meeting as comfortable as possible. Northern California's largest theme park, Paramount's Great America, offers a 12,000-square-foot meeting facility and an MAX theater for your really big presentations.

The 10,000-square-foot Intel Museum will introduce your meeting participants to the micro-miniature world of computer chips, where millions of electronic components are packed onto quarter-inch square and time in measured in billionths of seconds. Although the museum is designed as a self-guided experience, tours are also available.

When it comes to value, Santa Clara is hard to match. Weekend hotel rates are discounted 50 percent and parking at the convention center is free. Plus, when you check out "Meetings" at, you'll find "Hot Value Dates" for the best rates around. This Web site also makes meeting planning easy with comprehensive information about the region--everything from attractions to dining venues and accommodations--as well as a virtual tour of the convention center.

"We began the millennium with a solid commitment to quality over quantity," says Steve Van Dorn, director of convention sales and marketing for the Santa Clara Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The region's hotels and hospitality community are answering the evolving demands of today's association travelers with unique upgrades that reflect our more sophisticated market," he says. "This is Silicon Valley Central. You can expect easy access, user friendliness, and maximum productivity every step of the way."
