Santa's getting on his bike.

SANTA may use a sleigh when he does his rounds on Christmas Eve, but that's not the only mode of transport he's comfortable on.

As riders at Boundary 500 Motorcycle Club will show on Saturday, December 19, Father Christmas isn't bad on a bike.

But given that beard, it's hardly a surprise he's an adept handler of an Iron Reindeer!

More than 200 riders from the club will don their festive threads to take part in a ride around Teesside to raise money for Zoe's Place baby hospice.

Organiser Brian Laverick, pictured, said: "This is the fourth year the event has taken place. Last year we raised in excess of pounds 26,000. The procession will be led by a fire engine and at the rear an open top double decker bus will carry local dignitaries.

"We know times are tough for people at the moment, so anything we raise we just see as a bonus, but people on Teesside are always so generous, it's incredible."

The procession will leave Thornaby Fire Station at 11.30am, go along Riverside Road to Stockton High Street, along Wilderness Road and to the Newport Roundabout for about 12.15. From there it will go through Ayresome Street, Linthorpe Road, Grange Road, Albert Road, Corporation Road, and to the A66 at about 12.30pm. Then the riders will go along the Trunk Road and onto Cargo Fleet Lane, back onto the Trunk Road, to Kirkleatham Lane, before taking in Majuba Road, Newcomen Terrace, the Esplanade, and High Street.

The convoy will then turn back onto Newcomen Terrace and Majuba Road before ending their journey at Kirkleatham Hall at 1.15pm.
