Sandra picks up awards honour.

ACARE co-ordinator for Coventrybased ExtraCare Charitable Trust has been rewarded for her dedication to the elderly.

Sandra Ball, activities co-ordinator at Princethorpe Court, in Ernesford Grange, was honoured in the recent Liz Taylor Memorial Awards ceremony.

The awards ceremony takes place annually in memor y of Liz Taylor, one of the founding directors of CCHA ExtraCare, who died in 2005 from breast cancer.

Liz was director of housing and her husband Vernon Taylor wanted to pay tribute to Liz for her dedication and care of the elderly, creating the Liz Taylor Memorial Awards scheme to honour the staff and volunteers who work to provide respect, caring and listening to the residents. Liz Taylor joined ExtraCare in 1987, moving from Coventry Churches Housing Association and was instrumental in recruiting a nun Ann Miller, who was manager of the first Coventry closed care scheme Princethorpe Court, which opened in 1987.

The awards ceremony was held at the newly opened Panel Croft Village in Birmingham.
