Learn Tantra and experience joy
TANTRA is a form of yoga practised in India for over 5,000 years.
Hindu philosophy includes the belief that sexual energy is spiritual power when properly used.
Sting and his wife Trudi Styler practice Tantra, which is becoming increasingly popular in the Western world.
One of the basic teachings of Tantra involves techniques to delay orgasm, and a heightening of the senses to erotically build up to intensely spiritual sexual ecstasy.
All forms of yoga is based on breathing techniques, so here are a some basics that will improve your sex life.
It is important to get used to each breathing pattern before moving to the next. The first two techniques you can practice anywhere. Doing housework, standing at the bus stop, sitting in the train, even in work.
You will begin to feel more physical and experience less mental noise.
These exercises activate parts of the brain and spinal cord so your physical neuro-receptors and pleasure centres begin to open open up.
You'll find it easier to cope with stress as you learn to balance your physical and mental energies.
Learn to enjoy living in your body again.
We spend too much time "living in our heads", in other words trying to think everything through rather than connecting with our spiritual, emotional and sensual selves.
You will find these powerful exercises also improve your physical vitality, help lift depression, anxiety and tension.
They also activate your chakras, third eye, and psychic and healing centres.
They were taught to me during my Yoga training by a pupil of Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the classic Autobiography of A Yogi. He died in 1952 and his body has never decayed.
BREATHING 1: PRIMARY TANTRIC BREATH
SIT or stand relaxed, with your spine straight, and place your hand on your stomach. Start deep breathing: in and out through the nose, tongue gently touching the front of the roof of the mouth.
You should feel your abdomen expanding when you inhale, and flatten when you exhale.
Breathe in for at least six seconds, hold your breath for six seconds, and exhale for the same or longer.
Try to blank your mind, and try to concentrate on feeling with the skin on your face, arms, body and legs, to increase awareness of the sensations in different parts of your body.
BREATHING 2: RELAXING TANTRIC BREATH
BEGIN as above, raise your tongue to the roof of the mouth and inhale through the nose.
Then drop your tongue, open the mouth and jaw slightly, and exhale simultaneously through nose and mouth.
Close your eyes and feel the breath on your lips and nose.
Next feel the nerves in your arms and hands activate as you relax and exhale. Then concentrate on feeling with your body, and on the next exhalation, feel your legs and feet.
BREATHING 3: SENSUALISING TANTRIC BREATH
BEST practised before or during a bath, going to bed, and before making love.
Begin as in previous exercises but breathe in and out simultaneously through both mouth and nose.
Touch the roof of your mouth with your tongue as you breathe in, and drop the tongue as you breathe out.You will notice your body awareness increasing.
PART TWO NEXT WEEK: TANTRIC LOVEMAKING POSITIONS, MAKE YOUR LOVEMAKING LAST LONGER AND ACHIEVE THE ULTIMATE ORGASM
Ecstasy in every fibre of your being
YOU mentioned Tantric Yoga in one of your columns recently and I'm interested in learning more.
I practice Hatha Yoga, and I'm hoping to become a yoga teacher one day. I also have another reason.
My partner has problems with intimacy, he is quite cold and cut off from his emotions because of his mother dying young and his wife leaving him for another man.
At least I think that's where his problems stem from.
I know he loves me and he's willing to try something we could do together, like Tantra, that would improve our relationship.
Where can I find out more?
THERE are quite a few books and dvds available on Tantra, but I suggest you try and find one written by an Indian Hindu author as this is part of our tradition.
Western authors are more likely to adopt the "quick fix" approach to mystical subjects.
Tantra is about slow, sensual exploration of your partner's body, with the emphasis on sexual ecstasy in every fibre of your being.
Try my techniques, with your background in yoga you'll find it very easy, and I feel your partner will shed layers of pain with your healing Tantric loving.
