Sandefjord airport runway to be extended.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The runway at the Sandefjord airport, Norway is to be extended.

The airport director Alf-Reidar Fjeld has said that the runway is to be extended at both ends in order to be able to receive the largest aircraft types. The project has reportedly been prompted by the fact that the airport had to turn away an Airbus 330 aircraft operated by Novair in June this year.

The aviation authority refused the aircraft permission to land at the airport even though both the airline and the airport were sure that there would be no problems, reported Sandefjords Blad, a Norwegian local newspaper.
