Sande's songs a cert for Novello's gongs; RESULT!
EMELI SANDE has been nominated for two Ivor Novello awards - best song musically and lyrically and most performed work.
Her hit Next To Me is up for the first award.
It's a song that proves the old adage: What's too silly to be spoken can be sung.
I've no idea how you win the second award but Emeli (right) says if she wins it she will perform a minimum of 12 encores.
The Novellos are prestigious because they are voted on by composers and songwriters who know their way around music and lyrics better than most and are happy to let us know that repeatedly until fade.
Songwriters say that if the first line doesn't grab you then you won't be around for the second. Drug dealers say the same.
John Lennon once said songwriting is like being possessed - the less successful are repossessed.
The best songwriters write songs that you can't get out of your head. Sadly, so do the worst.
Sande is 6-4 with Ladbrokes to win both awards she's nominated for - and that's the best bet I've seen in a month of Sandes.
Best song musically and lyrically (Ladbrokes): 1-2 Next To Me (Emeli Sande), 3-1 Laura (Bat For Lashes), 4-1 Two Fingers (Jake Bugg)
Most performed work: 4-6 Next to Me, 11-4 Dance With Me Tonight (OllyMurs), 3-1 Paradise (Coldplay).
