Sam shows up his dad; SEA ANGLING.

WHEN the fish are scarce the young guns will show you how.

Sean Hildrew took his five-year-old son Sam to Panns Bank for a session, young Sam took a nice flounder of 1lb 2oz and a coalfish, while dad drew a blank.

Dave Laybourne didn't fair any better - fishing with his 13-year-old daughter Beth at Cresswell, while dad blasted baits well out Beth fished close in taking four small flounder and a nice plaice of 1lb 8oz.

Dad finally did get his one and only bite only to loose a decent fish when his line snapped. Bedlington Station travelled to Port Carlisle in search of fish and found the flounder eager to take the bait, Marty Pygall taking twenty three for 16lb 12oz, Callan Stevens thirteen for 13lb 15oz, Billy Jacobs cracking the magical 2lb mark with the heaviest fish a cracking flounder of 2lb 6oz.

On the home front it is still mainly the piers south of the Tyne that are producing the fish, the top three in Seaham's Wilkinson Cup all came from the north pier Dave Borwell winning the cup with a codling of 2lb.

Apart from the winning fish a codling of 2lb 5oz taken by Lee Burton from the Target the next two a dogfish of 2lb 2oz taken by Mick Davison and John Lovett's codling of 1lb 10oz both came from Seaham pier in Ryhope's sweepstake.

In a Tyne sweepstake fished at Pottery Bank won by Steve Potts with seventeen fish for 399cm, in a very close finish GarethGardiner took a nice codling of 49cm (3lb 4oz) in his second placed bag of sixteen for 398cm.

Unfortunately most other matches, apart from Easington SWC match won by Andrew Parkin with six flounder and a coalfish for 6lb 1oz, best 1lb 2oz, have been won with less that a 1lb.

Pleasure anglers have also struggles with unsettled conditions, however a few plaice are showing on Roker pier when anglers can get on Rob Bowmaker taking one of 1lb 12oz.

Walter Turnbull has sent me more details of his trip to Soroya Norway, after a hectic battle Turnbull landed the best fish of the trip a 101lb halibut, which as like most of his catch which included 150 cod in the 20-50lb including three in one afternoon over 50lb where returned.

North Star managed a trip off Hartlepool, with only two anglers on board the skipper didn't have time to wet a line as every drift produced fish, the pair ended up keeping twenty two fish with the best cod going 9lb 10oz, the best ling 12lb.
