Sale of Vermicelli, sweets surge before Eid.

ISLAMABAD -- The sale of vermicelli and sweets is on the rise in the city with majority of the people rushing to stores for buying these Eid items, following the centuries-old tradition of offering sweets to guests on Eid day.

The trend of having vermicelli on Eid day is practiced in entire Muslim world as it is liked by most of the people and it served to all males of the family before going to Eid prayers.

A buyer Amnah Hassan at a grocery store said."I have bought 10 packs of vermicelli for this Eid. I use to send vermicellies to my relatives as a Eid gift. I will send Eid gift to my daughters including vermicelli as it is an old custom of aur society. "

A house wife Naureen Zia said." On every eid I prepare 'Sheer Khorma' for my family, relatives and friends. It's cooking take long time so I cook it one day before Eid."

"The dishes made by vermicelli are liked by all age group due to its nutritional benefits and good taste."

The vermicelli manufacturers also increased the production to facilitate the consumers during Ramzan and Eid days.

The confectionary producers are expecting a boom in sales on moon night and two following days of Eid.

A bakery salesman Azhar Abbas said, "The rush at the bakeries is expected to increase during Eid holidays".

"The prices of sweets, usually, remain the same on Eid ul Fitr with minor difference from the past year, to avoid standing in queues for buying the sweets, people placed their orders in advance" he added.

Health experts said unhealthy products could damage consumers' health and people who kept the fast all the month should avoid taking heavy food on Eid.
