Safety light is turned on work.

Businesses in and around Northallerton are to go under the safety spotlight.

From today, Hambleton Council officers will work alongside the Health and Safety Executive to carry out workplace inspections following the successful Safer Working Town campaign last year.

That initiative saw the two authorities working together to make the workplace the safest it has been.

Participants included construction firms, farms, manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers.

Now these will be visited by officers to see how they have reacted to the campaign.

"Businesses had the opportunity to get all the information and expert advice they need to effectively manage health and safety during this campaign," said Eric Kendall, head of environmental health and housing.

"Officers will now be looking for sensible risk management and concentrating on the types of work activities that result in the most injuries."
