Saadiyat Beach Golf Club marks successful half year.

ABU DHAB'S Saadiyat Beach Golf Club has been celebrating its first six months of operation, and figures so far show that it has much to celebrate.

The Troon Golf-managed Club, which is owned by the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), is the Arabian Gulf's first beachfront course, providing a breathtaking variety of golf experiences, with every hole having its own unique character. And according to its general manager, Ray Manulat, the Gary Player-designed course has wildly exceeded even the most optimistic expectations.

"More than 11,000 rounds of golf have already been played on our greens and the comments from our guests have been highly complimentary. One told us that 'the playing surfaces are outstanding, especially when you consider how young the course is' another that 'the course is very challenging - it seems to play a different way every time I am here' and many commented that the course is awesome with spectacular views of the ocean. For me, the most rewarding comments were 'overall a great experience from the time we arrived with valet parking, to the time we left' and 'we will definitely be back; everyone made our day really special'.

"Saadiyat Beach Golf Club employs 113 associates from 13 countries around the world and many have commented on the great personalities of our staff and how well they interact with the guests. We always put guest satisfaction at the very top of our agenda and all our people are trained to the highest standards."

Saadiyat Beach Golf Club has been developed to the strictest environmental guidelines and has been working closely with one of the world's most established eco-conservation organisations -- the Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary Programme (ACSP) -- to achieve registration. Environmentally-sensitive initiatives that have been implemented include a protection zone for a neighbouring beach used by hawksbill turtles for hatching and a customised state-of-the-art irrigation system which, together with an onsite weather station, enhances the club's water efficiency strategy.

Manulat is delighted with the first six months of operations: "Saadiyat Beach Golf Club has fully embraced its role as the flagship sports facility on Saadiyat Island and has well earned its place as one of the top golfing destinations in the Middle East, not to mention a great location for both meetings and events," he said. "The amount of planning and attention to detail in the early stages have obviously well paid off and our vision is to set the highest benchmark for other golf clubs in the region to attempt to emulate -- but always to offer our guests just that little bit more!"
