Defence and security company Saab and Swedish Air navigation service provider's (LFV) newly established company Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions AB, has signed a letter of intent with Scandinavian Mountains Airport AB to provide remote air traffic services, the companies said.

The parties intend to sign a contract during the first quarter of 2017. With this letter of intent, Scandinavian Mountains Airport AB will be built without a traditional air traffic control tower. The airport is located in Rorbacksnas between Salen, Sweden and Trysil, Norway.

Saab and LFV have developed the remote air traffic service concept, Remote Tower, and their system was approved for operation when, on 21 April 2015, air traffic at Ornskoldsvik Airport came under the control of the remote tower centre in Sundsvall.
