SYSTEMS STRATEGIES ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR UNIVEL'S UNIXWARE
NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Systems Strategies Inc., a leading provider of SNA communications products, today announced that its Systems Strategies EXPRESS(TM) software products will support Univel's UnixWare(R), an operating system based on UNIX System Laboratories' UNIX SVR4.2 that incorporates ease of use and scalability from desktop to server applications. With EXPRESS, end users of UnixWare will be able to easily access data and transfer fields with IBM host systems, including both corporate mainframes and departmental AS/400s.
Systems Strategies is participating in Univels' Early Access Program, which will enable the company to provide the end user community with an IBM communications solution when Univel begins shipping UnixWare.
"We believe the need for linking UNIX to IBM mainframe and midrange systems is greatly increasing," said Univel President and CEO Joel A. Appelbaum. "We salute Systems Strategies' support of Univel and believe it will help to increase the marketplace for both companies by enabling UnixWare customers to communicate with IBM systems from their desktop."
Systems Strategies will be adding UnixWare to the extensive list of UNIX platforms supported by EXPRESS. These include: UNIX System V (SCO, Interactive, NCR, etc.) AIX, Solaris, HP/UX and ULTRIX.
EXPRESS products that will enable Univel systems to communicate with IBM mainframes and AS/400s (over SNA/SDLC, X.25 and Token Ring networks) include:
 -- 3270 terminal evaluation
 -- APPN end node
 -- 5250 terminal emulation
 -- 3770 remote job entry
 -- Industry Standard APIs:
 Extended HLLAPI, CPI-C, LUA/LU0,
 NetView Interface Tools
 -- 3179G graphics
 -- OfficeVision
In keeping with Unix Ware's end user focus, EXPRESS products will feature an SAA-compliant user interface supporting Motif, Open Look and character interfaces. It will also have simplified operation, administration and management. Both stand-alone and client/server (via TCP/IP and IPX/SPX) solutions will be available.
"With the introduction of UnixWare, Univel is creating a platform for the development of commercial UNIX applications," said Stanley Adelman, president of Systems Strategies Inc. "In commercial environments, sharing information throughout the enterprise is critical. Our EXPRESS software provides interopability between mainframe and AS/400 databases and UnixWare Systems. This will enable UnixWare to interconnect the enterprise."
