SYSTEMS STRATEGIES ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF APPN PRODUCTS

SYSTEMS STRATEGIES ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF APPN PRODUCTS
NEW YORK, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Systems Strategies Inc., a leading provider of SNA communications products, today announced that its Systems Strategies EXPRESS(TM) and ezBRIDGE(R) products now support IBM's strategic Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) protocol, a flexible routing system for sending data over backbone SNA networks, and IBM's Common Programming Interface for Communications (CPI-C), the standard Application Programming Interface for making use of LU6.2 functionality.
Systems Strategies was one of the first companies (including Apple, Novell and Siemens-Nixdorf) that received advanced IBM technical specifications necessary to develop APPN products. The company believes it is the first software vendor to announce availability of APPN under UNIX.
APPN support enables Systems Strategies to offer its OEM and VAR customers APPN connectivity and its end user customers the ability to interconnect UNIX and VAX/VMS systems to IBM peer-to-peer networks.
 Support for UNIX
Systems Strategies EXPRESS is a full suite of products for UNIX to SNA network connectivity. Offerings include 3270, HLLAPI, 3770 Remote Job Entry, APPC/LU6.2, NetView interface tools, LU0 and SNADS protocols. Both stand-alone and TCP/IP networked solutions are available.
Supporting APPN illustrates the company's continued commitment to the integration of UNIX and SNA technologies. It enables UNIX systems running EXPRESS to interoperate with other APPN implementations (e.g., MVS and VM, AS/400, OS/2). EXPRESS is available for SCO and Interactive UNIX, IBM, RISC System/6000 (AIX), Digital Equipment, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems and other UNIX systems.
Supporting CPI-C allows cooperative processing across IBM and UNIX platforms. A program written for CPI-C on an IBM system can be installed on a UNIX system containing the EXPRESS CPI-C library. It can then communicate with other CPI-C programs over an LU6.2 network.
 Support for VAX/VMS and DECnet
With the new ezBRIDGE Gateway, users can interconnect DECnet and APPN networks, permitting resources of one network to be available to nodes on the other network. For example, this enables any VAX on DECnet to participate as a peer node to IBM systems over APPN. The following functionality is supported: terminal emulation, file transfer, print services, OfficeVision/400 to All-in-1, and LU6.2 for program-to-program and message queuing.
As part of the new functionality, Systems Strategies is offering a CPI-C compatible library for VAX/VMS. For the first time, VAX/VMS users can develop applications across SNA/APPN networks using IBM's standard Common Programming Interface.
 Availability
Availability of APPN end node and CPI-C support for EXPRESS is as follows: Developer's Kit -- available now; general availability is planned for September 1992. Availability of APPN support for the exBRIDGE Gateway is as follows: preliminary availability is planned for May 1992; general availability is planned for September 1992.
