SYSTEMS CENTER TO MARKET TANGRAM AM:PM SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION PRODUCT;
 SYSTEMS CENTER BECOMES EXCLUSIVE WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTOR
 RESTON, Va., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Systems Center (NYSE: SMX) today announced an agreement with Tangram Systems Corporation of Raleigh, N.C., for worldwide marketing and distribution rights to Tangram's AM:PM software distribution product and companion products, such as the AM:PM Asset Management System. AM:PM provides host- controlled software solutions for users of Novell and OS/2 LANs, and DOS, OS/2, and Macintosh workstations in the SNA networking environment.
 "Software distribution to PCs and LANs has become a critical management issue for our customers worldwide," said John Daily, Systems Center's senior vice president of marketing. "With this agreement, Systems Center gains an industry-leading product that has a solid foothold in a rapidly expanding market. We are delivering a solution now that addresses all current software distribution issues, and also provides a clear path to an integrated enterprise systems management solution for the future."
 "We introduced AM:PM in September 1991, and the product very quickly became a clear market leader," said Chris Jesse, president of Tangram. "AM:PM has proven itself in the marketplace, and we're on target to have in excess of 100 major customers by year-end. Systems Center's worldwide distribution and support provides the means to meet the ever increasing demand for this product."
 "Caterpillar is recognized as a quality leader. Our dealers expect quality products from us. AM:PM helps us provide quality software by enabling us to deliver fixes and enhancements to our dealers in a timely manner," said Kevin Doglio, senior systems analyst at Caterpillar, Inc. "With the Tangram and Systems Center alliance, our company now has a single source for a full range of data transfer needs."
 AM:PM moves software between IBM MVS mainframes and any number of unattended workstations and servers. The product also provides data distribution and collection for production applications, and remote data management. In addition, a companion product to AM:PM, the AM:PM Asset Management System, collects software and hardware asset information as well as software utilization information. This data is consolidated on the mainframe and can be used in reports or loaded into mainframe databases for integration with other mainframe applications. With this data, organizations can make informed corporate decisions on hardware and software assets.
 "Together with Tangram, we will integrate the asset management capability of AM:PM with Systems Center's SOLVE:Configuration and SOLVE:Change applications, and other third-party products as appropriate," said Rick Camp, Systems Center's marketing director for data and software distribution products. "We also plan to combine the software distribution application functionality of AM:PM with the broad platform and connectivity support of our Network DataMover software."
 SOLVE:Configuration and SOLVE:Change are part of a family of integrated software applications that manage hardware and software inventory and track changes to systems and network resources. Network DataMover software automates data transfer and allows the integration of these transfers with related business applications on distributed systems.
 AM:PM pricing will range from approximately $75,000 to $200,000, based on the number of connected LAN servers.
 Since 1984, Tangram has provided information management software that enables file sharing, exchange, and transfer between the IBM MVS mainframe and workstations or network servers. Tangram products are installed in all major industries at more than 300 worldwide locations. The company is based in Raleigh.
 Systems Center, Inc. develops, markets, and supports systems and network management software. The company's products assist in the automation and control of mixed computing environments, and are marketed to more than 5,000 customers in 60 countries.
