SYNOPSYS JOINS CADENCE'S CONNECTIONS PROGRAM

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Cadence Design Systems Inc. (NYSE: CDN) announced today that Synopsys Inc. (NASDAQ: SNPS) has joined Cadence's Connections Program. As a member of the Connections Program, Synopsys will receive access to Cadence's own integration technologies enabling Synopsys to achieve a higher level of integration between its high-level design tools and Cadence's Design Framework II(TM). Improved integration will result in higher performance for the many customers using Synopsys tools in conjunction with Cadence's tools and design environment. This agreement is the next step in an on-going process of cooperation between Cadence and Synopsys to deliver high performance design solutions to their mutual customers.
Cadence and Synopsys are currently working together on a joint development project to extend the capabilities of the current Cadence/Synopsys Interface (CSI) marketed by Cadence. Following the Q2 delivery of CSI, Synopsys will embark on the development of a Synopsys-supplied integration product using the Connections development environment. Synopsys is currently expected to deliver the improved interface in early 1994.
Synopsys is the latest in a growing number of companies who have joined Cadence's Connections Program. The program, introduced in June 1992, offers unprecedented levels of access to Cadence's own integration technologies, as well as services and procedures that allow third parties to develop and maintain high levels of integration between their tools and Cadence's Design Framework II.
"Cadence recognizes that to best serve our customers we must step beyond openness to actively support high-quality integration between third-party tools and our Design Framework II," stated Jayaram Bhat, Cadence's director of framework marketing. "By offering third parties access to the same integration technologies that our own developers use, we are ensuring that our customers have maximum flexibility in creating a design environment best suited to their needs."
As a member of Cadence's Connections Program, Synopsys will receive a developer's tool kit including SKILL(TM), Design Framework II's extension language, and associated software required to provide effective integration into Cadence's environment.
"The products from our agreement will give our many mutual customers what they have asked for: continued integration of tools from both Cadence and Synopsys," said Penny Herscher, director of product marketing for Synopsys. "Cadence's Connections Program offers access to the integration technology necessary to forge these tighter links."
