SYNERGIS LAUNCHES ADEPT 7 ENGINEERING/DATA MANAGEMENT.

Synergis Software, the independent software development division of Synergis Technologies, Inc., Quakertown, Pa., has launched Synergis Adept(R) 7, the latest version of its award-winning engineering and product data management (EDM/PDM) system for multi-CAD product design environments. Adept 7 delivers increased performance by as much as 90 percent, greater usability and tighter integration with Microsoft Windows(R) and leading 2D and 3D CAD applications, with specific support for SolidWorks(R) configurations and AutoCAD(R) layouts, including SolidWorks 2007, AutoCAD 2007-based products, as well as Autodesk Inventor(R) 11. Adept 7 is a proven enterprise solution for global and small- to-medium sized manufacturers that want a comprehensive and affordable system to streamline their engineering design processes to increase productivity and accelerate time-to-market.

"The majority of manufacturers today have remote locations around the world that need to collaborate. They are continually looking for better performance on a wide area network -- especially with large assemblies," said Todd Cummings, vice president of Research and Development for Synergis Adept. "Adept has been reworked to improve performance and user productivity."

Performance in Adept 7 Boosts Productivity

Adept 7 software delivers enhanced performance for many everyday activities, including opening, searching, sorting, and scrolling, with performance gains as much as 90 percent over Adept 6 for certain functions. Adept 7 will also support FTP compression options available in third party servers, including FileZilla(R), CuteFTP(R), and Serv-U(R). This feature provides an extra measure of speed for viewing and transferring documents, signing documents in and out, and other operations requiring file transmission. The actual speed of transmission will vary, but tests show typical transfer rates have been improved by 50-70 percent when tested over a wide area network.

"According to test results, Adept 7 can search through a database of approximately 500,000 records 53 percent faster than Adept 6," said Joe Gasper, director of Quality Assurance. "In cases where a user is searching within 'Previous Search Results,' searching is as much as 90 percent faster."

Improved Integration with Microsoft Windows

Adept 7 now imports and updates user names and group information from the Windows Active Directory, allowing users to maintain a single login for both Adept and Windows. Once user names and groups are imported, an Adept Administrator can easily assign user and group permissions.

Support for SolidWorks 2007 Configurations

Adept 7 now supports SolidWorks configuration-level extraction of properties -- both custom and configuration-specific, drawing sheet and configuration names, as well as "Where Used" information at the file and configuration level. For a selected SolidWorks assembly, users can see: which part configurations are used by all configurations in that assembly; what configurations exist in the assembly or part file; what configuration-specific properties are associated with each configuration; or what assembly files and assembly configurations are using a specific part configuration. Adds Gasper, "By using configurations effectively, our customers reduce the number of files they need to manage and thereby increase productivity. With increasingly granular data to track, it becomes ever more critical to have a PDM solution that accurately maintains and controls product data throughout its life cycle."

Extracting Attributes from AutoCAD Layouts

Adept 7 allows users to track and manage attributes from AutoCAD. With AutoCAD layouts, Adept extracts all attribute information from blocks on a layout tab and displays them in Adept's Relationship Browser, referencing the name of the layout tab. In addition, Adept displays a thumbnail image of the last saved view of the file. Users can also view a layout for redlining purposes in Adept's built-in viewer.

Pricing and Availability

Synergis Adept 7 continues to be the most affordable and comprehensive engineering document management solution available. Adept 7, which includes a free commercial license of MySQL 5.0 (a retail value of $595), lists for SRP US$1,300 per concurrent license and the Annual Maintenance Agreement lists for US$325 per concurrent license. For information on Adept pricing for Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, or for more information about upgrade pricing, Administrator training, and other database migration services, please contact a Synergis Software Account Manager. Synergis Adept 7 software is currently available worldwide directly from Synergis and through strategic resellers in North America.
