CHATSWORTH, Calif., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- At its board of directors meeting, Syncor International Corporation (NASDAQ: SCOR) today announced the appointment of Gail R. Wilensky, Ph.D., to the company's board of directors. This is a newly created position and brings the total number of company directors to eight.
"Gail Wilensky will be a tremendous asset to Syncor," said Gene McGrevin, Syncor's president and chief executive officer. "We are extremely fortunate to have a true healthcare policy expert join our board. Dr. Wilensky's background in forming healthcare policies and HCFA administration will certainly help Syncor better position itself for the upcoming changes in the U.S. healthcare system."
Dr. Wilensky brings 25 years of healthcare experience to Syncor and is a nationally recognized expert on a wide range of health policy and financing issues. She is currently a Senior Fellow at Project HOPE, an international health foundation where she is analyzing and developing policies relating to healthcare reform and other domestic issues. Her previous position was with the White House, under the Bush administration, serving as Deputy Assistant to the president for policy development. In addition, she coordinated the development of policies and legislation concerning healthcare reform and welfare across government departments and served as the White House spokesperson in both of these policy areas.
Dr. Wilensky came to the White House after two years as the administrator of the Healthcare Financing Administration (HCFA), in the Department of Health and Human Services. While at HCFA, Dr. Wilensky had primary responsibility for implementing the reform of physician payments, hospital capital costs and Medicaid financing reforms.
