SYMPOSIUM ON 'THE AUTO INDUSTRY AND THE ENVIRONMENT'
TO BE HELD IN DETROIT IN OCTOBER 1992
DETROIT, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The German and U.S. automotive industries will participate in a three-day joint symposium dealing with problems facing the global automakers and their suppliers.
Titled "The Automotive Industry and the Environment," the symposium is scheduled for Oct. 14-16, 1992, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dearborn, Mich. The first of its kind sponsored by the auto industries of the two nations, the symposium will address issues on electric and alternate-energy vehicles, waste recycling, plant and vehicle emissions, water purification and the development of state-of-the-art materials.
Dr. Detlof von Berg, German Consul General in Detroit and originator of the idea, announced that speakers will include senior executives of the Big Three automakers in the United States and their German counterparts identified from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen/Audi.
Taking part in the symposium will be specialists from the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, banks, and the Michigan state government, as well as automotive engineers concentrating on environmental standards and regulations.
The symposium will be highlighted by tours of the Detroit area's major technical centers including the new Chrysler Tech Center in Auburn Hills, Mich., and visits to U.S. and German supplier facilities and proving grounds. Evenings will witness black-tie gatherings of executives from the major automotive and related suppliers.
"The central focus of this symposium," said Dr. von Berg, "will be to underscore the fair competitive spirit and constructive partnerships between the American and German auto industries to the next millennium."
