SYMETRICS INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER RESULTS

MELBOURNE, Fla., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Symetrics Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMT) announces that contract revenues of $1,385,052 for the three months ended June 30, 1993 were up substantially from $937,482 for the corresponding period last year. For the current three month period, a net income of $75,808, or $0.10 per share, is reported compared to $15,980, or $0.02 per share, a year ago. These significant improvements are attributed to the higher business volume which has resulted from record backlog at the start of the fiscal year. Working capital increased by $26,800 for the three months and the backlog closed at $9.29 million, significantly higher than the $1.65 million last year.
A comparison of the current quarter ended June 30, 1993 to the immediately preceding quarter, shows contract revenues were 65 percent higher at $1,385,052 vs. $840,512. The net income of $75,808 was a substantial improvement over the net loss of $17,997 of the preceding quarter, primarily due to the higher contract revenues. Backlog for the current quarter closed at $9.29 million compared with $10.65 million the previous quarter.
During the quarter reported, the company made a good start on its $6.65 million Improved Data Modem contract, secured in March 1993. Positive results included establishing good customer relations, structuring the program to meet its cost objectives, and positioning the program for the anticipated option awards of $35 million over the next five years. The $3.55 million AN/DKT-61A Telemetry program is also off to a good start and manufacturing is already underway.
As recently reported, the company has been awarded contracts totaling $715,000 from various customers, $694,425 of which came after the close of the quarter that ended June 30, 1993. Two large competitive proposals are currently in process. As announced in July 1993, the company has acquired, from Consolidated Engineering International, Inc., a 25 percent interest in its interactive voice response products for the rapidly growing interactive telecommunications market. The company is aggressively pursuing the marketing of these products and anticipates that this product line will contribute to its fiscal year 1994 revenues.
Based on its strong backlog position, the company anticipates profitable operations and record contract revenues for fiscal 1994, which ends March 31, 1994.
