SYMANTEC OPENS CUSTOMER SERVICE FACILITY IN EUGENE, OREGON

 CUPERTINO, Calif., Oct. 12, /PRNewswire/ -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the opening of a 55,000 square-foot customer support facility located in Eugene, Ore. The facility will house Symantec's newly consolidated customer service, order administration and product support organization.
 "The consolidation of our customer support functions will allow Symantec to provide improved and consistent customer support and decrease operating expenses," said Dana E. Siebert, Symantec's vice president of services. "Symantec's customer support group, which recently received the Users' Choice Award for PC Software Service and Support from Software Magazine, will continue to focus on providing superior service to our customers as we work to increase our overall responsiveness and efficiency."
 Symantec announced its decision to consolidate and relocate its technical and customer service in June 1993. The company expects to save $2 million annually as a result of the consolidation.
 The customer services group in Eugene will employ approximately 175 full-time and temporary people and will provide customer service as well as technical support for Symantec's utilities, project management and productivity application products. The group will also provide support for the company's development tools products beginning in March 1994.
 Located in downtown Eugene, the customer support group is at 175 West Broadway, Eugene, OR 97401. For customer service, customers can call 800-441-7234 or 503-334-6054. Fax-back service is available by calling 800-554-4403.
