SYMANTEC NAMES MARK BAILEY VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

 CUPERTINO, Calif., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the promotion of Mark Bailey, 34, to vice president, business development. In this position, Bailey is responsible for reviewing, pursuing and implementing strategic relationships for Symantec that include mergers and acquisitions, software publishing, licensing and minority equity investments. Formerly director of business development, Bailey is a member of Symantec's executive staff and reports to Gordon E. Eubanks, Jr., Symantec's president and chief executive officer.
 "During the past four years, Mark and his organization have built a tremendous track record in identifying and pursuing acquisition opportunities for Symantec," said Eubanks. "In 1992 alone, Mark's guidance and direction enabled the company to successfully complete the acquisitions of Symantec U.K., The Whitewater Group, MultiScope Inc. and Certus International. We are pleased to have Mark as a part of our leadership team as we position the company for future growth."
 During Bailey's tenure, Symantec has acquired a total of eight companies: Peter Norton Computing (1990), The Leonard Development Group (1991), Zortech Inc. (1991), Dynamic Microprocessor Associates Inc. (1991), Symantec U.K. (1992), The Whitewater Group (1992), MultiScope Inc. (1992) and Certus International (1992).
 Prior to joining Symantec in 1989, Bailey spent four years as an associate partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. In this role, he was responsible for analyzing new business investments and assisting start-up companies during their early growth stages.
 Bailey holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Princeton University, where he graduated cum laude. In addition, he holds an MBA from Harvard University's Graduate School of Business Administration.
