SYMANTEC INTRODUCES TIME LINE 1.0 FOR WINDOWS Windows Version of Project Management Industry Standard Now Available
CUPERTINO, Calif., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the leading provider of PC-based project management software, today announced Time Line(R) 1.0 for Windows, a new project management software program designed to deliver a powerful set of project management features in a highly usable package.
"We maintain our leadership position by working closely with our customers," said Chris Kocher, vice president and general manager of the Symantec project management group. "Their number one criterion for a Windows-based project management system is to reduce the learning curve and experience the benefits immediately. True usability coupled with power is the key to this marketplace." Usability Features
Time Line for Windows has been designed from the ground up to make full use of the Microsoft Windows graphical user environment. With its spreadsheet-like interface and outline structure, Time Line for Windows is familiar and easy to use. The product takes usability a step further with a suite of new features including Co-Pilot, Connect Tool, and Icon Bar, Info Boxes, AutoScale(TM) and a monthly Calendar Report.
Co-Pilot, a technology found only in Symantec products, is a feature that assists users in defining the underlying logic in a schedule. It monitors users' actions and makes suggestions on how to proceed. Co-Pilot is different from other technologies on the market because it remains continuously active, though not always visible. Also, the option of whether to act on Co-Pilot's suggestions remains with the user.
The Connect Tool allows users to simply draw a line to define task dependencies and assign resources to tasks. Info Boxes provide easy review of timing, task and resource information, and notes about any task. And the Icon Bar provides instant access to 32 routine activities, like printing and formatting, with a single mouse click.
Many of the innovative features in Time Line for Windows were pioneered by Symantec. AutoScale, for example, automatically sizes schedules to fit on one page, or enlarges and reduces reports to users' specifications. AutoScale allows printouts on any printer or plotter supported by Microsoft Windows. This provides clear and easy communication of project status. No other project management package supports autoscaling onscreen and for all output devices. In addition, Monthly Calendar Reports present information in a format everyone can understand. Powerful Project Management
Time Line for Windows contains powerful project management features that help manage projects of any size. These include Effort- driven Scheduling, Individual Resource Calendars and 8,000 tasks per file.
In addition, Time Line includes Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) that allows users to create dynamic links between other Windows applications and schedules generated in Time Line. This gives users immediate access to critical documents like budgets and graphs. Also, project teams can coordinate multiple projects quickly and easily by consolidating and linking information from Time Line for Windows, Time Line (DOS) and On Target, a quick and easy project scheduling package from Symantec. The Symantec Family of Project Management Solutions
Symantec offers power-easy Time Line project management products on both the DOS and Windows platforms. In addition, On Target is available for first time users who do not wish to concern themselves with technical project management terminology and methodology. Migration Path
Symantec Corp. provides an easy transition path for Time Line DOS users. Time Line for Windows can read Time Line DOS and On Target files, and includes a special help facility. In addition, a special section in the documentation is geared specifically to Time Line DOS users. Transition is also easy for Microsoft Project for Windows users because an importer converts their existing data files to Time Line for Windows. A special trade-in offer is also available. System Requirements, Pricing and Availability
Time Line for Windows runs on MS-DOS machines with Microsoft Windows 3.0 or higher. It is available from Symantec Corp. through its network of software dealers and distributors worldwide. The suggested U.S. retail price is $699 for the stand-alone unit and server version, and $599 for each simultaneous LAN Node. Through May 15, 1992, individual users of Time Line registered in the United States can migrate to Time Line for Windows for $129; LAN Node for $99.
