SYBRON ANNOUNCES WRITE-OFF DUE TO HEALTHCO

MILWAUKEE, Wis., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Sybron Corp. (NYSE: SYB) announced today that as a result of the filing of a bankruptcy petition by Healthco International Inc., Kerr Manufacturing Co., a Sybron subsidiary, will incur an adverse impact on its immediate term earnings outlook.
The company will establish a reserve for receivables outstanding from Healthco units approximately $1,500,000. Additionally, the company expects to experience a short-term loss of sales due to the inability to ship current Healthco orders which could amount to approximately $950,000 in the third fiscal quarter and $1,700,000 in the fourth fiscal quarter.
In aggregate, this will result in a reduction in Sybron's second half earnings of between 6 cents and 8 cents a share. The company is confident that any loss of business will be temporary as other distributors will pick up the Healthco business. Additionally, because Healthco sells a significant amount of its products under private label in direct competition with Kerr, Kerr expects to pick up new business.
Healthco, a distributor which supplies equipment and services to providers of dental care, filed a petition under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Massachusetts, on June 9, 1993.
Historically, Kerr's sales to Healthco in the U.S. in 1992 were $5,400,000 and to Healthco units outside the U.S. were $2,200,000.
