SWEETER-BRED CARROTS AND CELERY HELPS AMERICANS
COMPLY WITH 5 A DAY FOR BETTER HEALTH PROGRAM
CINNAMINSON, N.J., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumers looking to satisfy their cravings for crunchy and fast snacks and adhere to the recommendations of the new 5 A Day For Better Health Program can stop looking for the ideal product. VegiSnax(R), a new line of pre-cut, clean, ready-to-eat, sweeter carrots and juicier, crunchier celery, offers both.
VegiSnax's manufacturer, FreshWorld, is an active supporter of the 5 A Day For Better Health Program, announced today by the National Cancer Institute. The program encourages people to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables every day for a healthier lifestyle.
"VegiSnax Carrot and Celery Sticks are 100 percent natural carrot and celery sticks that are the result of nearly 10 years of research," Bruce McEvoy, president of FreshWorld, said today. "Our products will help people satisfy their cravings without the normal guilt that accompanies snacking because they taste good and are conveniently packaged and last longer than conventional carrots and celery."
Different from conventional carrots and celery, VegiSnax are specially bred to be better tasting than fresh vegetables, and are conveniently packaged in individual pouches.
VegiSnax have no additives or preservatives, and are an excellent source of vitamin A (carrot sticks), vitamin C (celery sticks) and vegetable fiber. They are also low in calories -- under 30 per 2-ounce serving of carrot sticks and under 10 for the same portion of celery sticks. Suggested retail price for 2- and 4.5-ounce VegiSnax packages is $.49 and $.99, respectively.
VegiSnax are available in the Pacific Northwest, the state of Colorado, and select convenience and food service outlets in other markets.
"Consumers are demanding fresh vegetable snacks, making this a perfect time for VegiSnax's continued roll-out across the country," said McEvoy. "McDonald's recognizes this trend as well, as select restaurants offer this product as part of their menus."
FreshWorld LP, based in Cinnaminson, is a joint venture of the DuPont Co. and DNA Plant Technology Corporation. FreshWorld has also test marketed a new VegiSnax line extension of proprietary sweet mini- peppers in the Northwest, and plans to test market cherry tomatoes and other fresh vegetable snacks in the future.
