SVen'S SeT TO SWOOP FOR Shane.
LEICESTER CITY are looking to outbid both West Ham and Premier League West Brom for the services of Ireland striker Shane Long.
Reading were not keen on selling to another Championship club but may have to revise their strategy as the former Tipp hurler has just 12 months left on his contract and none of the Premier League clubs that were initially interested are prepared to stump up the pounds 8m fee that the Royals insist on.
Leicester, the Championships big spenders, have shown they are capable of competing with Premier League clubs on fees and wages and recently outbid Wolves for Reading centreback Mills.
The Foxes paid pounds 4.5m for Matt Mills, pounds 1.5m more that Wanderers were prepared to pay.
It seems that manager Sven Goran Erikson has given up on signing Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard and lost out to Swansea City for Middlesbrough striker Leroy Lita and is now focused on 24-year- old Long.
West Brom's bid for Long is reckoned to be just pounds 3m while West Ham offered pounds 5m plus add-on's.
The Foxes Thai owners have encouraged Erikson to break City's transfer records to buy the right striker.
