SVR Joins The Yield Management Team as a Founder Member; An Alliance Dedicated to Advancing Yield Enhancement Technologies.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 1996--Silicon Valley Research, Inc. (SVR) today announced that is has joined as a founding member The Yield Management Team (YMT) -- a formal cooperation of companies that will jointly develop yield technology to support semiconductor manufacturing facilities (fabs) in the future.

It is the focus of the team members to collectively develop software and hardware interfaces to integrate all areas of IC manufacturing into a central yield information system. SVR brings its capabilities as an electronic design automation software developer to the YMT partnership which includes equipment suppliers and yield enhancement software developers.

"Clearly, as the industry moves further into the deep submicron era, the fabrication facilities will have to be more concerned with the impact of circuit design and layout issues on overall yield through the manufacturing process," said Glenn E. Abood, President and C.E.O. of SVR. "Through the YMT, SVR gains knowledge and partnership which will make it possible to predict layout effects on yield in the near future," he added.

Founding members of the YMT include Advantest (Europe, Electroglas, Keithley Instruments, Knights Technology, Triant Technologies and SVR. The YMT is a formal cooperation of companies partnering to improve yield enhancement technology in the fab today and to develop new toolsets to support fabs in the future. Comprised of semiconductor manufacturing equipment suppliers and software developers, the YMT will concentrate on improving equipment and software interfaces, developing new yield enhancement capabilities, and industry education.

"SVR is a key addition to the Yield Management Team," stated Tom Sherby, Chairman and CEO of Knights Technology. "They will provide an important tie to the design community -- linking design yield to manufacturing yield for the first time," he added.

SVR offers a broad line of integrated placement, routing and floorplanning physical layout software products which enable electronics manufacturers to achieve improved semiconductor performance and smaller chip size in their integrated circuit designs. Headquartered in San Jose, California, the Company has sales and support offices in the United States and Asia. SVR's common stock is traded on the NASDAQ market under the symbol of SVRI.
